You live in a large city.  And although the past few days have been sunny days with bright skies, looking up at the tallest buildings from a distance reveals a haze surrounding the building.  Pollution has gotten worse in the past few years.

You live out in the suburbs with relatively little pollution.  The neighborhood is filled with flowers and trees, creating a very nice atmosphere.  However, like many others, you are highly allergic to pollen and the like.

You love animals.  In fact you love them so much, you have 2 cats and a dog in your apartment.  However, after living with three animals in an apartment for some time, you find that your sinuses are frequently stuffy, and you’re sneezing much more than usual.

These are just three of many different scenarios in which an air purifier would positively impact your health at home.  However, a problem many people encounter when looking for an air purifier to purchase is simply choosing which one to buy.  Unlike smartphones, where the main choices are generally limited to only a handful of different phones, there are many more air purifier brands to choose from.

To help you choose the best air purifiers out of the bunch, here is a list of the best air purifiers separated by price ranges.

$0 – $299

Clair TD1866 ($199):

TD1866-1

Clair is one of the only companies that do not need to use a HEPA filter in order to filter out the air.  Instead, Clair air purifiers use its own patented technology called the e2f filter to clean the air you breathe.  The way it works is simple, instead of having ozone-generating ionizers to get rid of the smaller particles, the e2f filter has a static electric charge built into the filter itself – much like the way Swiffer cleaners work.  So while the mesh from the filter filters out the larger particles, the electrostatic charge of the filter attracts the smaller particles.  The end result?  Much lower power consumption from not needing a powerful fan (the maximum power consumption is only 5.8 Watts), and clean air without the use of HEPA filters.

For those worried about that Clair air purifiers will not meet HEPA standards, fear not.  This air purifier can actually filter out particulate matter as small as 0.01 μm, which goes beyond HEPA standards of only 0.3 μm.

$300 – $999

Alen BreatheSmart ($599)

alen-breathesmart-3-quarter-view

While not an entirely a complete game changer (nor is it unique), the SmartSensor Technology built into this air purifier makes it extremely convenient to use.  While the Clair TD1866 only has two buttons to simply operation of the air purifier, the Alen BreatheSmart air purifier has function that automatically adjusts the airflow when it detects allergens and pollutant in the air.  This means if you decide to use the SmartSensor, you’ll never have to touch the controls on your air purifier until it’s time to clean or replace the filters.

Aside from the SmartSensor, it has a washable anti-microbial filter and an ionizer in order to tackle the air filtration from multiple angles.  However, once again, these features are not unique.  So then why is this considered one of the best?  It’s reliable.  From the hundreds and hundreds of reviews these air purifiers have, a very large majority of them have very good reviews.  It is reliable, intuitive to use, and easy to clean/replace the filters.  What more could you want from an air purifier?

$1000+

IQAir HealthPro Plus ($949)

IQAir New Edition HealthPro Plus

Disclaimer: No, I’m not an idiot.  I know that $949 is not more than $1000.  So then why did I put this air purifier in this category?  Simply put, the total cost of maintenance for this unit will easily put the total cost over $1000 – mostly due to the cost of replacing filters.  As a reference, the cost of the pre-filter, which can last as little as 6 months or as long as 18 months, costs $115.  And this is for just one of the filters.  However, if you’re seriously considering buying an air purifier that costs this much, price should not be much of a factor for you anyway.

And for the price that you pay, you get the latest and greatest in air purifiers.  IQAir is well known for creating the best quality air purifiers in the business.  In fact, many of its air purifiers are used in hospitals, as the filters used in IQAir are generally hospital grade filters.  Could it be overkill for the average home?  Perhaps.  But if you have the money anyway, why not get the absolute best?

This beast of an air purifier utilizes something called “HyperHEPA” filtration, which according to IQAir, is proven to filter out particles even 0.003 μm.  And compared to its predecessors, its filters also last longer, while the fans are quieter.  In addition, the 1125 square foot coverage of this air purifier will accommodate even the largest of rooms for effective air filtration.

If you want the absolute best of the best, you should look no further – for a price.

All in all, these are the best air purifiers for the given price categories.  May your allergies and dust problems be resolved!
